Salago trades from a strong, visible trading position at the junction of High Street and Castle Street in Totnes town centre. Totnes is a thriving and vibrant retail centre with many successful, independent retail operators trading in and amongst national multiple occupiers. The town is known for its ethical and fair trade sentiment, and this is typified by Salago as a business.  

Totnes is the main hub of the South Hams District, and the town serves many of the outlying smaller towns and village and a popular day trip destination for many tourists year round.  

SALAGO - 'The shop that is a little different.' Salago was founded in 1971 by Jim and Tissi Pilkington, with the three fold objective of serving customers, serving those we work with and serving the needs of others.  

The business originally traded for many years from 51 High Street, just opposite; but moved to the current shop following a sale of the larger building in 2021. Now, at the age of 90, Jim Pilkington wishes to step away from the business in order to pursue other interests.  

Salago is famous for the wonderful variety of stock lines it offers, many of which are sourced direct from small independent manufacturers in Nepal - a country with which the business has a very strong connection and affinity.

The business is also known for the sale of art materials, toys and games, home and health care products, books and fashion.  

Salago is a strong supporter of the Grace Orphanage in Nepal, with a 10% gift on all product Nepal sourced lines going to the orphanage.
