Award winning Licensed & Leisure property Agents Bettesworths are delighted to announce the sale of the leasehold interest in the Angel Bar, Exeter. This well-established and highly successful wet led bar situated in the heart of the city centre has purchased by local, Marc Leslie.

The Angel is situated on Queens Street, directly opposite Exeter Central Railway station and close to the University and Exeter College and less than a minutes’ walk to the city centre. Benefitting from the high footfall of this excellent location, and a reputation for internationally famous DJs and a valuable late-night license, the bar is extremely well established with a significant turnover. The Angel is an eclectic place with a huge following, promoting itself as an independent ‘boozer’ with traditional values. It has a very welcoming and friendly feel and is chameleon in its style of operation, welcoming a diverse range of customers including business people, locals and regulars, rugby fans and music lovers.

Owner, Dickie Harrison commented, ‘I am extremely proud of my 12 years as Landlord of the Angel. It’s a great cultural hub for the city centre. I love the mix of clientele and the history the business offers. I want to say a big thank you to all our customers and staff for a great decade, it has been an amazing journey! I have decided to make a lifestyle change and move up to Dartmoor to open a proper country inn. I love pubs and want to go back to my Devon roots and my family. I am so glad that we have found a great chap, Marc to take the Angel to the next chapter and wish him and staff a great success for the future.’

New owner Marc Leslie commented, ‘I love this pub! I am honoured, happy and humbled to continue its legacy. Dickie has created something really special here and after 10 years of drinking, dancing and meeting my beautiful partner here, I had to take the opportunity to continue forward to the next chapter. Exeter needs the Angel, its an institution and I know what makes it tick. Keep an eye out for some amazing nights in the near future. Nothing will be drastically changed but I do have some ideas around food and a good game of FIFA on the PS4 is always a winner! Viva la Angel’.

Matt Bettesworth, who handled the sale commented, ‘Sometimes its difficult to find a suitable buyer for a well-established business but I truly believe we have done so in selling the premises to Marc Leslie. Dickie Harrison has done an amazing job over the last 12 years and the natural progression seems to be set in stone. We wish both Dickie and Marc all the very best with their new chapters’.
